NHRA® Team Report
NHRA – Arizona Nationals
Coming off a career best time in the opening race at Pomona and looking ahead to Phoenix, Cruz Pedregon says the potential for the Snap-on Toyota this year is “through the roof.” “We’re a new team, so there are some growing pains. But everyone is feeling positive and motivated,” Cruz says. “We’re going to Phoenix to put four good qualifiers together, and we believe we could just mow through the field…no problem.”
New Crew Chief for the Snap-on Toyota Aaron Brooks says, “When this car does go down the track consistently, it will light up the scoreboard. We believe it’s the kind of car and Cruz is the kind of driver that will win out in the end.”
Cruz and Aaron say they had the car “backed down” to get into that narrow window to put a career best run in the books, and that’s what is giving them a better picture of what it will take to make this a winning season for the team. “We need three or four races to get into the groove, but it’s going to happen,” says Cruz. “Phoenix was my first national win back in ’88 in a top alcohol dragster. We were the funny car winner here in ’93 and runner up in ’94, so we’re excited to see what we can make happen this weekend.”
On the Side of Cruz’s Car – Phoenix
Check out Cruz’s car this weekend and you’ll see the name of Snap-on Franchisee Mike Eastman. Before he became a Snap-on franchisee 27 years ago, Mike says he could tell you anything you wanted to know about produce, but nothing about tools. As a middle manager for one of the largest global produce companies, he says he was on the fast track to the top. But he wanted to own his own business, and he says his success with Snap-on is because the company taught him well. He says his Snap-on franchise is his “heart and soul.” Mike says he really respects Cruz for taking the time out before a race to spend time with Snap-on franchisees and customers, and he looks forward to joining him in the pit this weekend.
